River Cruising

River cruising is a unique and popular vacation experience, primarily in Europe.  There are also Exotic River Cruising options in Asia, Russia, Egypt and Africa. In the US, there are small ship cruises that tour some of this country’s major rivers and inland waterways.

This style of vacation allows you to visit multiple cities in one or several countries, depending on the itinerary, while giving you one accommodation to call home for the length of your vacation. You unpack once but visit different destinations.

Today’s river cruises are on beautiful small river ships, accommodating between 100-160 people in Europe with smaller vessels in some of the Exotic locations. There are numerous companies offering river cruises, each with its own unique style and itineraries.

The itineraries run between 5 and 21 days, with options for pre or post city stay extensions. The vacation price is quite inclusive, with accommodations, meals, and shore excursions all part of the cost. The ships are generally docked right in the city or town, meaning that you can simply walk off the ship and spend the day in town if you decide not to take the included excursion. On nights that you’re docked in town either late, or overnight, you can also opt to go into town for dinner or an evening stroll.

With the small, intimate size of the ships, the shore excursions are smaller groups and the meals are an enjoyable event. The food and accommodations are four star and the service onboard and guides for the excursions are first class.

This is a great vacation for people who are interested in experiencing culture, good food and a relaxed, intimate style of travel in old Europe.
