There are so many reasons to plan a vacation. You just NEED to get away! This year marks a big birthday or anniversary that you want to celebrate. Maybe you want to spend time away with your kids/spouse/friends. Have you always wanted to see a particular country or iconic site in person?
These are all reasons that people decide to go on vacation. But there’s one more reason that you may not have considered….
Events! Concerts, sporting events, Oktoberfest, anniversaries of significant times in history; these are all events that people plan vacations around. We have planned numerous trips to Munich, Germany for Oktoberfest and we’ve helped people experience the Military Tattoo in Edinburgh, Scotland. Some of our clients take their vacations in early December to enjoy the Christmas Markets of Europe. Thousands of people travel to the World Cup soccer tournaments.
Other events include religious and historical themed anniversaries. This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and if you’re a Lutheran, your vacation may be a Reformation Tour in Germany. Two years ago was the 70th anniversary of D-Day and many people traveled to France for that commemoration.
So what upcoming event might encourage you to travel? We have one in our sights that we’ll share. Have you heard of the Passion Play? And have you heard of the small German town of Oberammergau? It all began in the 15th century, when Europe was suffering from the Plague. This small town had been hit by the plague and in fear, the surviving villagers prayed for Divine intervention. They vowed that if the rest of their people were spared, they would perform the Passion Play every ten years. Not one more villager fell to the disease and the play is performed still today, once every ten years.
The next time this historical event is taking place is in 2020. In order to perform in the play, the actors must either have been born in Oberammergau or have lived there for at least twenty years! The play starts at 2pm and ends at 10pm, with an hour and a half dinner break. It’s INTENSE!! Tickets are hard to come by and tours sell out quickly, so if this is an event you’d like to experience, NOW is the time to think about booking it. CRAZY, right? Three years in advance? But if you have a true desire to experience this moving, day long play performed by these villagers, you don’t want to miss your chance.
We are looking to put together a group for this amazing event ourselves, so let us know if you’re interested in traveling with us. We’ll have more details on our website soon.
In the meantime, is there an event that you’d like to attend soon?? Let us know if we can help you get there to have an “eventful vacation”!
