Have you ever gone through your day, gotten to the end of it and wondered what you did all day? How about a week or a month of that?
When we go about our day to day life, we often get so caught up in routine that we operate on automatic pilot. That’s not necessarily a terrible thing, it can help us be more productive and manage our time well.
It also has the effect of lulling us into complacency, though. We tend to glaze over what’s happening around us. If you’re like me, you may even be unaware of what the weather is like until you step out of the office to go home!
Now let’s talk about being on vacation….different place, different attitude!
You have a heightened sense of not wanting to miss a minute. You are so present the first time, you see the iconic site you’ve waited so long to see or taste that dish you’ve always wanted to have in the country of its origin.
And the weather? It’s the FIRST thing you notice when you pull back the curtains of your room. YAY! It’s sunny today, I can’t wait to get out and explore!!
This is one of the reasons that I’m such a big advocate for taking vacations. It keeps us present, makes us really enjoy the experience as we’re having it. We don’t take for granted the sights and sounds, the people around us or the smells and tastes of the destination we’re visiting.
If you want to shake up your world and wake up your senses, GO ON VACATION! It’s guaranteed to have you paying attention to what’s happening around you.
